From Munni to Sheila to Jalebi Bai to Chikni Chameli, are we yet not bored of our desi item girls?
Adding a desi masala item number, it seems, is the new pre requisite in making a film these days. Not only the lyrics of the songs are similar, the whole look and vibe of the song bears a strong resemblance throughout.
Ok, how to make such an item number? Take a desi tune, string words like munni, sheila, Anarkali, chammak challo, jawani etc, sign a top notch actress, give her a choli and a half lehenga, put a few hundred extras in the background and there you go, you have an item number, which would be touted as the ‘Item Song of the Year’.
Is Bollywood overdoing this whole desi item number thing? Kareena’s item number from Heroine (Halkat Jawani) and Dabangg 2 are already making headlines, when she has not even shot for these songs. Filmmakers are selling their films on these item numbers. Recent examples being Katrina in ‘Chikni Chameli’ from ‘Agneepath ‘and Malaika Arora Khan in ‘Anarkali Disco Chali’ from Housefull2 and Chitrangda’s item number ‘kaafirana’ from the upcoming film ‘Joker’.
