Last year, Sonam made her Cannes debut as a global representative and the face of L’Oreal. She had only one red carpet appearance and she wore an elegant Jean Paul Gaultier archival gown from the 2009 collection. Who can forget THAT! Right?
Now that L’Oreal has confirmed Sonam’s presence (as their brand ambassador) at the 65th Festival de Cannes, we thought it’s time to update the possibilities of what we might see the pretty fashionista wearing during her red carpet appearances. And not only red carpet gowns, we’re talking day wear dresses, indian outfits and cocktail numbers as well. One thing that’s for sure is that she won’t be able to wear the same outfit twice. Sonam will need a casual, smart outfit for the day, a couple of flirty cocktail dresses or flowy gowns for get togethers or evening parties and obviously full-length gowns for the red carpet.
So what might Sonam wear at Cannes this year? We pick some red carpet clothing choices for Sonam.
DAYTIME WEAR
Don’t expect her to be dressed in overly vintage dresses, sparkly gowns or backless outfits. This is no time for showing off, she can save that for the red carpet. She needs to dress in a way that is warm, easy going, and maybe even slightly un-glamorous or conservative. At this time of the day, she will most probably be busy giving media interviews and we suggest she wear something that is safely old-fashioned yet festively fun.
- We suggest Sonam chooses outfits that are less dramatic, it can be colorful knits or printed summery day dresses, tweedy suits and high-waisted trousers. Something easy, fun and effortless.
FORMAL DINNERS/COCKTAIL PARTIES
Cocktail parties and dinners may vary in the level of formality and therefore there is no single kind of attire that will cover the genre. Being evening, We would like Sonam to look like a goddess wearing plain, long and flowy chiffon gowns or wrap dresses, fine knits, flowy or flared skirts, silk, satin, sheer tops, dressy pants. Basically something that looks cute, doesn’t look too dressy and looks glamorous all at the same time.

RED CARPET
Now Sonam attended just one red carpet premiere at the festival last year. We would however like her to attend more premieres this year around, as THIS is where all the magic happens. There are so many great gowns this season, the possibilities are endless. She can do sequin and shiny, prim and pretty, vampy and sexy, vibrant and ethereal or even minimal, depending on her mood. Whatever the theme may be, this is where she can work her glamour quotient, this is where she gets to experiment and show off all she wants. We don’t want to see rockstar princess, since we have already seen a bit of that last year.

) gowns. You have a great taste in fashion, and I can actually imagine Sonam in most of the gowns that you have chosen for her.
I just have one question, what is the person who has NO TALENT AS AN ACTOR, whose movies are painful to watch, who comes off as a complete fake and basically an idiot when she opens her mouth going to be doing at cannes for a film festival? how many people did anil have to bribe, kiss asses, to get them to ask to come or perhaps shes been making good use of her tongue ring to get places.

and they are the most hypocritical, CORRUPT, yes, I agree, they have good values, BUT most don’t uphold those said values and as far as abuse as in curse words, hunny, Indians have a wider variety of curse words that are a staple for 95% or more indian movies than the english language does. this is the same country where people live in slums in the shadows of highrises, where women are called devis but abused, where poverty line is higher than most developing countries, where they bicker and crib about foreigners, but use their universities, their countries, copy from them day in and out cause there is no originality. And what originality, values, traditions that are there, have been overshadowed by trying to become ‘modern’. And hunny, there is a huge differerence between moving forward with time, and losing your sense of culture while at it. Puttin on a facade is easier and keeping up with it.

A wannabe is this star child, granted she experiments with her clothing style and thanks to daddy has access to high end designers, and just because she is anils daughter she has had any of her opportunities. had it solely been on her ‘talent’ after her first movie she woulda been a nobody. Acting talent is not a gene like some people think it is. She might wanna whipe that drool off her face next time she is around another American star like Cruise. That was quite pathetic.
Im sure she’ll pull off most of her dresses and the only reason she’l be at cannes (which she more than likely begged soemoen to hook her up) is cause she is reping loreal! and NOT AS A TALENTED ACTRESS!
If Indians are so proud of who they are then how come they don’t wear Indian designers to Film festivals such as Cannes, Oscars, Brits, etc. who are yet to get international recognition and make a statement that I am Indian, wearing this gown,dress,outfit,sari,traditional outfit, jewelery made by an Indian designer instead of wearing gowns by other European/American designers?! Down to earth people like ARRehman do just that, they let their work speak volumes than scream for attention with what and who they chose to wear!
